Different Uses of IPA Alcohol

IPA alcohol otherwise known as isopropanol is a flammable, colorless chemical compound with a very potent smell that evaporates very quickly, due to its volatile state. It is primarily produced in the United States, Europe, and Japan by combining water and propane in a hydration reaction or by hydrogenating acetone. This is an extremely useful substance and according to a report, 45 thousand metric tons of IPA alcohol was used in the United States itself.
IPA alcohol is highly used in industrial processes, household use, personal care products and pharmaceutical applications. Some of its major uses as follow:
·         As a cleaning alcohol, it is used for cleaning surfaces like dry erase boards and computer screens. It is also included in cleaning electronic devices such as contact pins, magnetic tape, and disk heads.
·         As an excellent disinfectant, IPA alcohol is used to make hand sanitizers, alcohol pads, and alcohol swabs to clean cuts and wounds, and disinfect them so they don’t grow infected.
·         As a preservative, IPA alcohol is used as an alternative to formaldehyde and other synthetic preservatives to preserve specimens.
·         IPA alcohol is used to remove brake fluid traces from hydraulic braking systems so that the brake fluid does not contaminate the brake pads, which would result in poor braking.
